Nature
Curacautín is the northern gateway to Conguillío National Park and to Malalcahuello, a valley of araucarias and coigües at the foot of Lonquimay volcano. The area concentrates some of southern Chile's best-known hot springs and waterfalls that drop straight from high-altitude forest, like the La China and El Indio falls, just minutes from town.
Hot springs
Malalcahuello and Manzanar hot springs are among the most complete in southern Chile, with several pools of different temperatures set in the araucaria forest. They run year-round, with extra charm in winter when cold air meets hot water.
Activities
- Corralco ski and mountain resort, on the slopes of Lonquimay volcano: skiing and snowboarding in winter, trekking and mountain biking in summer
- Short hikes to the La China and El Indio waterfalls, under an hour from town
- Ascending Lonquimay volcano and trekking through the Malalcahuello National Reserve, among centuries-old araucarias
When to go
December to March for trekking and waterfalls; June to September for skiing at Corralco.
