Coffee tour at an 1853 coffee hacienda near Medellín

La Casa Grande is an 1853 coffee hacienda, one of the few two-storey rammed-earth houses left from that era, with high ceilings, slanted balconies for drying the coffee and its original furniture and objects. The same family has looked after it for seven generations. The tour starts at 10:00 with transport from El Poblado. At the hacienda you learn the whole coffee process: how it is planted and harvested, how the beans are processed, their aromas and properties. You walk through the shade-grown coffee fields under native trees, a good spot for birdwatching, and finish with a specialty coffee tasting, refreshing drinks and a home-cooked lunch. Back in Medellín around 15:00. Bring comfortable clothes, long trousers, closed shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses and mosquito repellent.
