Experiences and local guides in Potrerillos

Mountains and watersports an hour from Mendoza: rafting and kayaking on the reservoir and river, on the way to Aconcagua.

Nature

Potrerillos combines dry mountains and water: a turquoise reservoir ringed by arid hills, fed by the Mendoza river, just an hour from the city and on the way to Uspallata and the Chile border pass. It's the usual base for rafting in the area and a starting point for stretches of the Inca Trail.

Activities

  • Rafting and kayaking on the Mendoza river, with sections of varying difficulty depending on the snowmelt season
  • Reservoir sports: sailing, stand-up paddleboarding and silverside fishing
  • Trekking and horseback rides to the Cacheuta canyon and its natural hot springs
  • Zip lining and an aerial park among the hills, with views of the reservoir

When to go

October to March for rafting with good snowmelt flow; the reservoir and watersports run year-round, with colder temperatures in winter (June-August).
