Nature

Puerto Iguazú lies on the triple border with Brazil and Paraguay, deep in the Paraná rainforest. 17 km away, Iguazú Falls: 275 cascades over 2.7 km, with the Devil's Throat plunging 80 metres in a permanent cloud. The national park, a World Heritage site, shelters toucans, coatis, capuchin monkeys, butterflies by the hundreds and, with luck, jaguars on the remotest trails.

When to go

All year, with a humid subtropical climate. December to March is very hot and the falls carry more water; April to September is more pleasant with fewer people. Mornings are best for wildlife.

How to get there

Cataratas del Iguazú airport (IGR) is 20 km away, with flights from Buenos Aires (1 h 50), Salta, Córdoba and Mendoza. Buses from Posadas (5 hours) and Buenos Aires (18 hours). The national park is 17 km away: buses every 20 minutes from the terminal, taxis and tours. The Brazilian side (Foz do Iguaçu) is 30 minutes away across the Tancredo Neves bridge.
