Villa Traful is the smallest town on the Seven Lakes Route, on the shore of a narrow, deep lake of intense turquoise blue, surrounded by forested mountains without the tourist development of Bariloche or Villa La Angostura. The lake's water is so clear that submerged rock formations are visible from the surface.

Activities

• Internationally rated trout fishing, with catch-and-release zones and specialised guides
• Kayak or boat trips to see the caves and pumice-stone formations along the shore
• Coa Có Falls and Cascada Blanca, reachable on short walks from the main road
• Traful Viewpoint on the road to Confluencia, with a panoramic view of the whole lake

When to go

December to March for fishing and boating; the town has limited services and several close out of season, so it's worth confirming availability before visiting in winter.
